Victoria Nursery School, Victoria Parade, Belfast

Welcome

We aim to promote the development of happy, secure, confident children who are motivated to be independent in their learning. We believe that the purpose of nursery education is to provide effective and active learning experiences which equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding for lifelong learning. We will nurture them to have a respect for themselves, others and the world around them within the caring and supporting ethos which permeates our School. We promote strong partnerships with parents to support children in realising their full potential.

Opened in 1969, Victoria Nursery is a purpose built nursery, traditionally catering for the needs of pre-school children in the local area and beyond. We have a strong focus on meeting the individual needs of the child to promote learning and independence.  We develop respectful relationships with the children and, through skilful interactions and observations of their behaviour, plan activities accordingly to maximise children's involvement in their play and build on their learning. Staff are highly skilled and experienced in meeting children's needs and work as a team to encourage positive behaviour and support language and communication needs.

Through our carefully prepared learning environment, both indoors and outdoors, staff will encourage your child to explore and experiment with a wide variety of play materials.

Your child will have opportunities to: –

  1. Develop an understanding of themselves and others

  2. Make new friends, learn to share and take turns.

  3. Become confident and independent.

  4. Develop positive attitudes to learning by concentrating, observing, listening and thinking

  5. Gain knowledge of the world around us.

  6. Have opportunities to become creative and expressive.

  7. Develop early experiences in maths, science and technology.

  8. Enjoy stories, rhymes and songs.

  9. Enjoy physical play in the safety of an enclosed play area.

  10. Develop skills, which will provide a firm foundation for future learning.

Parents are a child’s first educators and when a child comes to school, they bring with them a range of broad experiences. Our strong partnerships with parents enable us to build effectively on these experiences to develop children’s personal, social and emotional skills and to maximise children's involvement in their play, enabling them todevelop the skills, knowledge and understanding for lifelong learning.

Victoria Nursery is part of the New Lodge Schools Cluster which promotes parental partnership and offers a variety of courses and workshops to promote confidence and learning for parents. We have strong links with both our feeder childcare settings and local primary schools. These partnerships allow the children to experience a depth and quality to their learning experiences. We are passionate about outdoor learning and have been awarded Eco School's ‘silver award’ Green Flag. We have also been awarded the Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award in recognition of our school community which demonstrates exceptional co-operative effort in supporting the pastoral care of pupils and their families.
